2 methods to reset Magento admin password

Sometimes you may forget your Magento admin password and you don’t know how to reset. In this tutorial for beginners, we’re going through 2 methods to reset admin password in Magento.

Method 1. Reset Magento admin password using Magento password recovery feature (email)

This is the quickest way to reset your Magento admin password, you will receive your new password via email. To do this, first open Magento login page > Click on Forgot your password

magento login pageNow you will enter a new page where you can enter the email you want to receive your new Magento password

Simply, enter your email and click on: Retrieve password button. Now open your email to get your new password.

Method 2: Reset Magento admin password via PHPmyadmin

If you cannot reset your Magento admin password via email, don’t worry, we will use PHPmyadmin. This method is a bit more complicated but we will go step by step.

First, access your PHPMyadmin tool. Normally PHPmyadmin is integrated in your Hosting Control Panel, for example, in Cpanel

Next, in the left-hand pane of phpMyAdmin, click the Magento database. A list of tables in the database appears, now you just need to select  mg_admin_user table and edit

In the next page, you will be able to change your admin account info like email, password, username

enter your new magento admin password

Remember to choose MD5 for your Password and enter your new password

After all is set, click on Go button to save your new Magento admin password. Now you will be able to login to your Magento admin with your new password.

    A good tip while dealing with passwords in Magento would be to change them at least 2 times a year. This offers an added layer of security.
